Great contractors/handymen to reccommend
OK - so I have selfishly held back in recommending these people because I thought I had a job and wanted them to be available. But I can't afford to do anything, so I am giving this reference as a gift to all of you. Trinidad Terrones is a great person to call for all sorts of jobs. He and his crew are fast, cheap and very reliable. Always man the job fully and always show up and work their asses off. I would not recommend them for super-fancy jobs, but they did the reno of our rental which included sheetrocking, taping and painting, building closets, tiling kitchen, exposing ceiling beams, sanding and finishing ceiling beams, sheetrocking ceiling, refinishing floors - etc etc etc. They were SO FAST, SO CHEAP and SO RELIABLE, that every day they had always done twice as much as we were expecting. They are family friends of ours (Trinidad is my nanny's brother and her husband, other brothers, and nephews all work with him) and are just wonderful people in general. Because the whole crew are related, they all benefit from getting the job done ASAP which is why they go so fast. One thing - they have days jobs, so all jobs must be done at night and on weekends. Trinidad Terrones' number is 917-442-9818.

I'm guessing they aren't licensed or insured? Anyone know if that is really necessary for what are essentially cosmetic renovations like the ones this posted listed?

unless this post is an attempt at comedic relief, it should be pulled altogether. A complete joke.

Actually quite humorous.

Why is this humorous? I posted this and it is a genuine post to recommend some people who do great work for cheap - what everyone is always looking for in this city. I don't understand what the problem is frankly.

The OP sounds like he is writing a treatment for a soap opera.
Agnes Nixon, where are you?
I hear Joan Collins is looking for a job.

Ya know, it could be sincere, you cynical SOBs. What is this, Gawker?
This was posted by a registered reader. I, too, regularly post positive (and negative) feedback on my contractors. To me, that's the whole point of a site like this--duhhhhh.

Well, I don't care what the others say - I appreciate it! Don't listen to the ridiculousness and thank you, very thoughtful in my opinion.

A contractor who works only nights and week-ends?
That tells you something righ there!

There are all levels of contractors, including those who do solid work around day jobs. If you can't handle that type of job, simply go to a full service GC instead of mocking the OP as well as anyone who could benefit from the post.
The usual cautions apply here as in every case; go with your comfort level for insurance and license compliance. Do your due diligence; the same service person that someone raves about another might curse. Ask questions until you don't have anymore.
This site has gotten so painful to read; the vibe frequently feels like your walking into an alley full of hungry, nasty street cats ready to pull you apart. Can't we show up with a neighborly spirit of support and information sharing?

Well one thing I can say is don't listen to anything Ysabelle says - as far as I have been able to tell from his posts on this site, he is a shyster.
If anyone wants to any more info about Trinidad, you can post your email here and I'll contact you with my phone #.

Shysters are people who aggressively try to sell you things you don"t want. The other definition is a con artist.
I am neither.
The purpose of the forum is to express different points of view.

Thanks for the heads up Mr. Trinidad!

I guess they pull D.O.B. permits for night and weekend work- so easy! Lets see they are cheap because they have no license, no liability insurance, no workmans comp. insurance. Go figure.

Don't be so generous with your reccommendations
What is cheap labor by your standards might turn out to be someone elses most expensive nightmare!
Posted by: Ysabelle at January 31, 2008 11:50 AM
plenty of people need workmen who will do what essentially the owner would do on their own if they had the time and the skills. There was no mention of moving electrical, plumbing, etc., so no permit may have been needed. If what you need is a real GC for the work, then hire them. If, however, you just want painting and other basic things done, then it sounds like these guys might be a good recommendation, so stop the negative comments. Finally, like anyone who works for you, visit other sites they have done and get a written contract and their full name, address and phone. Basically, it is "handywork"
