DOORS

I need to get 4 interior doors made most likely in maple. Any one knows the approximate cost for this?

Standard 6'8" doors? Or taller?
I was able to order 7' doors from Allegeny Woodworks (http://www.solidhardwooddoors.com)
for half the price of Dykes and Lowes. They have a price list on their webiste. Am still waiting on the doors, so can't vouch for quality yet. . .

Heatherie - I know I would appreciate hearing about the quality of the doors once you receive them. Could you create a post when you get them?

Sure - I'll try to remember. It will be in a few weeks.

Heatherie,

I've had Allegeny tagged as a source for my doors as well. I'd be intrested in hearing how yours work out.

I found Wood Zone's work to be unsatisfactory. They took FOREVER, very slow, and uncommunicative. The staining wasn't very rich.

Hey Heatherie,

We were also looking into Allegeny doors and was wondering how yours worked out. Are they nice?

Wasn't paying attention. I received the unfinished doors, and was happy with the quality. I can''t vouch for their finishing, but I bet it would be good quality. Packaged and shipped well.

The doors needed a little bit of sanding before staining, but I was very happy with the quality of the doors. Very smooth and solid, and seem well made. I went the cheaper route and bought the poplar (which also tends to be a domestic wood), but stained it a richer color. Since all our wood was heart-pine stained a mahogany color, it seemed like an historically accurate way to go. We just had to seal/condition the wood first to make sure the stain didn't go on too blotchy.

The 7' by 32" door ran about $210 unhung.
