BUILDING A NEW DECK
I need my deck to be replaced. It was never filed with the DOB and I would like to do it now. Do any of you know of a contractor/metal worker that could do both the filing and the actual work?
Otherwise, can you recommend someone for the actual work? And an architect that would be willing to take such an small project?
Many thanks, Ray

i've heard they do nice work but look at steve's work his company is urban exteriors.
his website is urbanexteriors.biz--check it out
beautiful work with wood and works with an iron guy for the frame. look at the notes here in the archives. you'll find a lot about a few of the deck builders that have been decking brownstone brooklyn for a while.
good luck!

When I built mine I was told a roof deck is considered "furniture" and not a fixture. It was, therefore, not something I needed to file for. Consensus here seems to be otherwise.

there are definitely rules about decks and your neighbor can tell on you if it isn't done correctly, then there is a fire hazard to your neighbor and if the DOB gets involved, well you'll have to tear the whole thing down. So I have no idea who told anyone that a deck was furniture, but it isn't.
