Want to build a story addition

Hi everyone,

Could anyone please recommend an architect that has done modern story additions to traditional brickhomes? We want to do something really special (ie. not like hideous tumor building), and are having trouble finding an architect that specializes in Brooklyn. We want a modern and light filled space that still respects the house and the neighbourhood.

Any recommendations or referrals or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You should check out the architect thread on this forum, there are lots of suggestions there. My personal favorites:

B5 Studio: www.bfivestudio.com
Agencie Architects: www.agenciearchitects.com

Good luck.

This all depends on what you're willing to pay...

I have heard wonderful things about Ben Baxt of Baxt/Ingui Architects - their office is in lower Manhattan, but they live in Brooklyn and have done lots of great additions there.

Baxt/Ingui don't do modern, but traditional. They are really good though (the best in Brooklyn I know).
John Hatheway does modern and is highly regarded in Brooklyn.

Call Robert Scarano, very modern and can maximize the square footage automagically

OP, post your email address. I'd like to send it to our architect.

Scarano is the way to go. He can get you triple the space that anyone else can design, but it has to be ugly.

wondering, send your email address to david@silverwd.com. I will send you pic's of a recent addition that I believe fits your description. If then interested, I can connect you with the architect.

Ben Pell and Tate Overton of PellOverton. Excellent design work - Ben teaches at Yale - and experienced and client-friendly.
