Marta at Cobble Heights Realty was good but I'm not sure she's still there. And Candice at Brooklyn Heights Real Estate. Greg King in Park Slope was also good but I don't remember what agency he was with. I must have worked with 15 brokers when looking for an apartment in the area you're looking and so many would not call me back or acted like I was bothering them. Just be persistent and know exactly what you want and don't want in an apt.

Absolutely love Walston at Urban View Realty (urbanviewrealty.com), he helped us find our house, and helps us rent out our tenant apt. We have only the best to say about him, fair and reasonable.

Definitely stay away from Aguayo & Huebener. They are unethical and unscrupulous.

I've heard nothing but horror stories from people who have used Rapid Realty. You can sometimes find out about bad agents/realtors if you put "bad" into the Craig's List real estate search engine. Best of luck to you during your apartment search!

Peter Mcguire @ Smith hanten. He has always got me good tenants and a pleasure to deal with.

Alan at Prudential Douglas Elliman is pretty much the king of Cobble Hill/Carrol Gardens rentals - but beware: He's kind of crazy.

I like Pietro & Denver at Vespa Properties -- we rented an apartment through Denver once and Pietro almost sold us a house once (sellers fell through), but was then very helpful in referring tradespeople to us for our renovation.

They're both competent, helpful guys who don't hard-sell. (Actually, I think they're both artists first; real estate is just their day jobs).

Hey,

I actually just worked with Rapid Realty (they're in South Slope), and had a really positive experience with them. I'd heard some bad reviews, too, but my best friend used them and LOVED them, and I did too. They worked really quickly, but def. took my needs/budget/preferences into consideration, and I ended up getting a wonderful apt. And without a fee (I just had to pay 1st month rent, last month rent, and security). Give them a try, you don't even have to leave any $ until you find a place you want.

I worked with a couple different agents from Rapid Realty (responded to 2 separate craigslist ads, not realizing that both worked for the same company), and both were great. There didn't seem to be any unscrupulous behavior at all - everyone I dealt with in the company was very straightforward and pleasant.

I didn't buy the whole "no fee" thing at first, but this is how it works: they charge first, last, and security because the landlord has already agreed to pay them their fee (which is where your "last month" comes into play) - Rapid Realty keeps your last month as their fee (and the landlord SIGNS something saying he will not receive that money, I was very adamant about seeing this), so that it is essentially the landlord who is paying for the last month you live in the apartment. I am assuming this is typically how "no fee" works, it seems very legitimate at Rapid Realty.
