Pigeons Problem
Pigeons have taken roost in our eaves! I'm looking for someone to instal bird spikes on brownstone. Anyone have a recommendation?

before you install spikes, you should search the archives on this problem. We had the same issue and someone suggested a simple thing that worked like magic. Every night, gather up a few pebbles and take aim at their nesting place. Pigeons don't like to be disturbed in their sleep. Do this a couple of nights in a row and they're very likely to leave. My husband did this 3 nights in a row and they left. This was over two years ago and they haven't been back. We almost invested a ton in spikes, electric strips, removal. the results were *amazing* (and relieveing!!!).

We had a similar problem and Jim at Pestquest (http://www.pestquest.info/) took care of it quickly by installing a series of spikes and wires. It wasn't expensive and he has returned quickly whenever any of them has slipped or become dislodged. I recommend him highly.

we solved our problem by throwing down bird food laced with poison . Worked like a charm

Soak some peanuts in bourbon overnight and throw them into the pigeon nest, works wonders. Otherwise you might want to try a wooden owl.

I once saw a flock of pigeons nested among the spikes, so I've always questioned how effective they are. Also, I think they're ugly...kind of like you sprayed your lintels (etc.) with Rogaine. If I had a problem with pigeons, I would try other solutions first.

hang a fake owl near where they roost. worked for me.

Have to say, fake owl did absolutely nothing to solve our pigeon dilemma. Made them uneasy for the first few days, but they acclimated quickly. Don't waste the $25. However, I will say that the pigeon spikes have been effective in preventing roosting. But nothing can be done about crazy neighbors that have been feeding them WHOLE PEANUTS. Pigeons now drop from the rooftop to open, and shells are everywhere *sigh*

Soak some whole peanuts in bourbon overnight (the strongest and cheapest one can buy), as a previous poster has noted, and feed them to the pigeons. They'll fly off intoxicated and not return, I'm really serious.

I don't know what is wrong with the pigeons on my apt. They won't eat anything I leave out for them. I tried mushrooms, chocolate, and hard boild eggs with powdered asprin. They wouldn't eat any of it. Then I tried putting out cyanide. F*****s won't touch that either. So I think I am going to try the burbon and peanuts. If that doesn't work I am going to move some place else and then take my land lord to small colections to get rent back. For the anguish of bird mites that no one seems to think is worth getting rid of.

All of you are very sick excuses for human beings. To intentionally poison or harm birds when there are humane ways of deterring them, put you in the same league as serial killers, who get their kicks off of seeing defenseless animals suffer. By the way, throwing rocks at the nest may work, but did you ever wonder about the babies that are left behind to starve? Or the birds you permanantly maim or cause death to? Did you even care that the poison that you use will also be ingested by other animals and birds (some that you actual might be able to tolerate, although you all sound like animal haters to me, which essentially is someone who can't be trusted) or carried into a dwelling on someone's shoes? And by the way Ms. or Mr. Cyanide lover...poisoning pigeons or posing potential harm to them in the form of intoxicating them is ILLEGAL. If I find out your exact locations you will be slapped with a fine and possible arrest. Then see how "inexpensive" your methods are. You are the F*****s that should be eradicated. Pigeons never try to purposely harm another species. And if you think they're massive disease carriers, refer to the CDC who state that pigeons DO NOT pose any health threat to humans. When all of you finally leave this earth (and I pray it will be soon), you will have to answer for all your cruelty and selfishness. Monsters like you make this planet a living hell.
