Gas Boiler question
Anyone have experience with the Peerless Pinnacle series or Burnham Freedom series of boilers? Looking for service and reliability as well as ease of installation Vs. a traditional gas boiler.
Comments
I've installed the Burnham Freedom.
It works exactly as advertised, but the piping is tricky.
What specifically would you like to know?

Thanks for the reply master plumber.
Whats tricky about the plumbing? Have you done any service on the unit?
Im trying to choose between one of the above units Vs. a more traditional boiler. I have a pretty good understanding of the older model burnham units (both instalation and service), but these new 93%+ eff. models are alien to me.
My major concerns are reliability, cost (purchase), ease of service, and efficiency in that order.

At least a few years ago Peerless was in flux -- for one of my jobs some very smart plumbers (and ultimately techs from Peerless) could not get one of their boilers to work as specified.
Could be different now, of course.

Both boilers are fairly new.
The Peerless uses technology borrowed from another boiler, called The Munchkin, made by a company called Heat Transfer Products which has an outstanding reputation.
The Burnham Freedom uses the same control unit as the Weil-McLain Ultra.
The piping is tricky because it has to be done in a way that allows a specific amount of water to flow through the boiler at all times. The boiler also requires a minimum and maximum temperature differential between the outlet and inlet ports. That's also a function of the piping and pump size.
Neither boiler is a typical slap-it-together installation. It requires a good look at the system to which it is being connected and some strategic planning.
Installed properly, either should serve you well.

Thanks Master Plumber. Great info. The job is still a few months away so I'll have some more time to choose.
