Creating a Partition bt Parlor and Upstairs Apts

I am in the process of renovating a 4-story 3-family brownstone into 3 apartments. The previous owner used the space as a 1 family home even though it has a C of O for a 3 family. I intend to live on the garden and parlor floors and rent out each of the 3rd and 4th floors. I am trying to figure out a way to partition the upsatirs apts from my living space. Does anyone have any suggestions as to who can help me create an aesthetically pleasant division?

I guess you might want an architect to draw up the plans for you, but you should be able to see what you are asking for. To that end, I suggest you make the rounds of some open houses. There are many brownstones out there with this lay-out. Didn't you see them when shopping for your own? Go take a look. It'll give you the ideas.

I've seen it done beautifully once in a house for sale in Windsor Terrace on Sherman Street last spring. Judith Lief of Warren Lewis showed the place and knew the name of the architect. Only time I have every seen it done in a way that didn't disturb detail and made it seem relatively easy to remove in the future if you want to reclaim the upstairs floors. It also allowed light to pass through.

There are many ways to do this. Often, the Parlor door becomes the owner's entrance and the door at the end of the hall is closed as a wall or closet. But you want to mimic the original details so it doesn't look awkward. Done well, it's fine.
