Asbestos and Insulating Basement
I am looking to insulate the ceiling of my basement in our brownstone. The ceiling appears to be a chalky white ceiling with some fibers in it.
Does anyone know a company that will check a piece of the material to see if contains asbestos?

Give Liam a call at Leinster contracting. They specialise in asbestos removal / abatement so they should be able to assist or point you in the right direction. 917-681-8906. Great guys.

Take a small sample, put it in a ziplock bag, and send it to this lab in NJ. http://www.iatl.com/
It should cost $30-60 per sample, based on how fast you need it based on my experience.
A lot cheaper than hiring an inspector, who should cost around $250 plus around $35 per sample taken.
I had good luck using this lab.

I agree, send it to a lab. There is one in midtown also that I went to, but can't remember name or location. It only costs a few bucks.
