24-hour Brooklyn?
What specific areas in certain neighborhoods are the best for late-night or 24-hour activity? I work late/am a night owl, and I'd like to know that I can run out to a diner or coffee shop and also a grocery store at any hour if need be, and that there will be people on the street. The few neighborhoods I know in Brooklyn seem to shut down after 10-11pm, even in downtown Brooklyn. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Brooklyn eataries shuts down lastest about midnight no matter the neighborhood, unless you are fond of carribean food of halal resturants in that case you'll find your self in crown hts, bedstuy, or flatbush or there are some late nite diners waaaaay out in like bay ridge and sheepshead bay there will be people on the street, but they are people who would be out at those hours.
There may be some diners along the looooong strecth that is 4th avenue.
For supermarkets you'll have better luck as the pathmark at atlantic center is open all nite. There are a several duane reade's open 24hrs one @ fulton and jay street, downtown, and the other in park slope/prospect hts on flatbush and 6th ave...
Welcome to Brooklyn - It's beautiful, because we actually go to sleep.

Blue Ribbon in Park Slope is open until 4am. Most other restaurants shut down by 12, except for scattered 24-hour diners (there's one at 3rd and Atlantic, and one at Clinton and Fulton, and no doubt others). Tea Lounge is open until 1 or 2.

williamsburg has kellogg's diner, no great shakes but open 24hrs. city lights diner is the one on atlantic and 3rd, not bad. and of course in my neighborhood (bushwick) we have lovely dunkin donuts on every block. not ideal but at least something is open.
oh, is that bagel cafe still open on 5th ave can't remember cross street, near Union maybe?) that place is 24 hours, has a neutral coffeshop vibe.
i can't think of any grocery stores besides pathmark, would be good to hear of any others (besides bodegas). there is a 24 deli at grand and lafayette, no bulletproof glass!

The new gourmet deli at Fulton and South Elliott is 24 hours. Seems pretty nice so far. Great beer selection.

I know Williamsburg has a few late-night diners (Kellog's, Bagelsmith, Kitchen Delight, Anytime) and also some 24-hour grocery stores! Sun-Ac (spelling?)and Kim's Millennium Market on Union is large and like a traditional grocery store, a nice change from the moldy atmosphere of other 24-hour "grocery stores."
Of course in Williamsburg you have to deal with the annoying college nightlife, but anywhere that has a big night life scene is going to have a lot of late-night options.

Bar Tabac on Smith Street (at Dean I believe) is open 24/7 and you can get decent food (wouldn't go out of my way to eat there) and a nice vibe.
