Wrapping thick link chain around waste line to insulate sound?

We were recently told that wrapping a thick chain around a waste line would insulate the sounds of flushing and water running. Has anyone else tried this? Does it work?

Would you be wrapping the chain around the inside or the outside of the waste line in order to deaden the noise?

1:23pm ... are you an idiot? Yeah, they're going to drop chain link INSIDE their waste line...good one.

poster - this is a lot of weight to add to the line ... you will have to support the pipe on any horizontal runs ... if it's only striaght down, then not as big a deal. Have never heard of chain ... have heard of rope but that's for heat pipes, not sound.

Pipe insulation will work better. It is availiable from plumbing supplies (may have to be ordered) usually used for large steam mains.
