What's going up on the corner of 10th st & 8th Ave?

Anybody know what's going up at this corner? I'm very sad about losing the trees and open space. Any clues on how big, how tall and how ugly the building will be?

Judging by your "optimism" I can assume you are a foe of the project. Here is what you can look forward to.
Building Dimension:
No. Stories:5
Height: 50" I think R6B allows for street level of 40' with another 10' after a setback.
Dwelling Units:10
Total Gross Area of Building: 24,605 Sq. Ft.
You can call the architect and ask him...
Felix Tambasco
Phone:
718-875-4300
Sears Tambasco Architects
356 Fulton Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201
or call the developer,
Tim Betancourt
 Betancourt & Associates 335 7th Avenue 718 369 - 7900
 Brooklyn NY 11215

They are trying to get the zoning lot subdivided and until that time the permits, ect and property address seems to be showing up as the church. MY GUESS IS THAT BETANCOURT WILL HAVE SOME SALES PERSPECTUS ALREADY IN THEIR OFFICE.

Ithink Brownstoner wrote up this building....by the same architects. I wouldn't expect any neo-historic style brownstoner facades.

That building is exactly what nearly all of South Slope and Sunset Park will become. People paying well over a million for tiny vinyl-sider houses there are going to regret it, once they are flanked on both sides by buildings like that. South Slope and Sunset Park are not landmarked, not special enough to be landmarked, and the city would never allow the landmarking because everyone needs to face it, SOME place in Brooklyn need to be available for higher-density housing. It can't be all one and two family houses everywhere forever and ever. There'd be no such thing as middle class housing in that case, plus amenities would never improve to a great enough degree without new condo buildings. Balance is good. But if you want leafy Brooklyn streets containing mostly houses it's baffling to choose South Slope or Sunset Park. I'm not getting that appeal.

Thanks for the info! that building looks scary and I really can't imagine it on my corner next to the church. FYI 4:26, parts of south slope ARE landmarked - 9th - 15th between ppw and 8th. This corner is one street outside the landmarked area and smack in the middle of leafy brownstoned streets.
