The scream and scramble method is not working

Hi everyone-I am hoping you can give me some info as I need a buzzer/intercom system badly. I have searched the archives and haven't gotten a clear answer on who installs these things and how much one of these systems costs. Its a 4 family so I need 3 low tech units for the tenants and 2 higher end units for our space. Currently-we use the scream towards the door and run at it to let folks in and its getting to be a drag and a little dangerous. Also -is it more cost effective to order one of these systems online or better to go through whoever you have installing it. Please send me recs and contact info-good and bad experiences, etc. Thanks!!!

Any licensed electrician can purchase this at a wholesale electric supplier and perform the installation for you.

home depot sells them.

Do not buy it at home depot. Buy one at an electric wholesaler. Obviously home depot sells everything.

Its not about buying something at home depot--its about finding a system that will work for the long term, that is unobtrusive and that does not cost a fortune. Its also about finding someone with some expertise to install it-I have spoken to my locksmith and electrician --one gave me a crazy quote and the other gave me a quote but told me that "its not what they do". Most brownstones in brooklyn have some sort of intercom system and I am sure some work better than others---please share which ones you like which ones you don't. Who is the best person to install this sort of thing etc.

where would I find an electric wholesaler ?

Quotes for these are generally crazy, as they are expensive to install.

You can use Aiphone which is excellent probably $1200 in material to purchase if you have 5 locations & 2 door stations. Wiring & Install may be as much as another 2 or 3 grand plus patching & painting these things aint cheap Sweety

I have the Aiphone system - it's great.

6:53 Unfortunately -I have become an expert patcher, sander and painter so all that is going to cost me is time (actually with my new power sander I feel an invincible)--more concerned about the install cost but I would certainly prefer a 2k install to a 3K install. 7:37 thanks for the rec-what kind do you have-I have checked out the aiphone site and they have many many options.

does anyone have a phone system with a card for the intercom? we are thinking about this as a solution; the one intercom system we priced that actually looked decent was way over the top expensive

"Obviously home depot has everything." Let me be more specific. I got mine at home depot, it works. It was installed same time as other renos, so electrician (who I don't recommend) installed it then. Ran wires through walls. Wasn't a big deal. Might be harder if you have already closed up walls.

Home Depot has everything? Yeah, if you're looking for dirty shelves, clueless employees, and long, frustrating searches for merchandise. Hate that place. Also, it's owned by right-wing nut cases.

On intercomes, this thread is sooo dead-on: Our bedroom is on the top floor in the back, and I hate the mad scramble to get to the door before a delivery guy gives up and leaves. Here's the system we're lusting after:

but if you have to have these things on your walls, they are purty

They sell a wireless system that apparently works great. It costs about 100 to 150 dollars, and you can install it yourself, won't damage walls or anything like that.
Have a look - maybe even be able to test it and return it if it doesn't work as stated. I am going to get one in my new house (currently being renovated). THey sell them in many places, such as the MoMA store in SoHo.
Enjoy!

I have Aiphone KB-3HRD. It's great. No issues. I wish the camera was controllable sideways as well as up-down, and that it had the ability to open the garden door separately from the other entrance. You can also use it as an intercom.
