Sewer smell when heat comes on
We recently turned on our steam heat for the season, and on the ground floor, in the front of my bldg., there's a strong sewer-like smell every time the heat comes on.
The smell dissipates after about an hour or less.
Does anyone know what the problem might be and and how to fix it. Thanks

Boiler water might be smelly ... you should check the water for levels and smell each heating season.
If it's gross water, when it's heated into steam, the smelly steam will escape through soem of the bleed valves on each radiator.
Also, that radiator might be smelly inside and when the heat comes on, smelly steam escapes through the bleed valve or through cracks until the radiator heats up and expands.
