Insurance consultant
My co-op wants to reconsider its insurance policies, and we are wondering if there are insurance consultants out there. I.e, someone who will give objective advice (for a fee) but not try to sell us insurance. Ideas?

They are called "Insurance Brokers." They earn their living through commissions paid by the insurance carriers. Marsh McLennan is a big one, so is Aon, there are smaller ones out there.
Give one of these guys a shouut!

What aboutyour managing agent? It is their job to find providers and get quotes for you.

Beware... managing agents can be a very bad ideas as most get a kick back for a recommendation. Contact a broker yourself. Check out Habitat magazine or Cooperator (http://cooperator.com/articles/1482/1/Reducing-Liability-in-a-Co-op-or-Condo/Page1.html) for articles and maybe call them and ask for a list of brokers. Do your due diligence. It will pay you in the long run.

Thanks for those responses. We have no agent; it's a small place. And brokers are what we want to avoid. Thanks to guest2 for the Cooperator column, which helps. Other suggestions????
