Building Plans
I own a three-story bstone sandwiched between two four-story buildings, at one time a copper cornice made up for some of the difference in height. Unfortunately it was torn down in the late 50's. I've tried to get a photo from the NYC archives, but they can't locate it. Do the building plans on file with DOB show elevation?

Short and hatless...
If there is something in the DoB file it might show the elevation. You'd have to go there and look at the folder. As an alternative you might just look for other similar vintage buildings with intact cornices.

If the tax lot photo is missing for your property, try ordering the tax lot photos of the neighboring ones. These can actually be better for trying to figure out old cornices as they will show your (neighboring) building more in profile.

Also, try visiting the municipal archives in person instead of just sending in your BBL. Sometimes the microfilms for the tax photos are misplaced and you can find your property if you hunt throught he reels.
