Brownstone Authority
I recently spoke to J. Mos and received a written estimate for facade work. Would love to hear if anyone has had good or bad experiences with this company or if you would recommend another company. I want to hire a reputable company but at the same time money is extremely tight because I am on disability. Thanks.

After meeting with him, I desperately wanted him to repoint our facade. He blew everyone else away. His price however, was 3 times as much. So I saved myself $8K and went with Metro Restoration who I was happy with.

OP here - Thanks for the response. I feel the same way. After speaking to J. Mos I really get the feeling that he is not only qualified and competent but that he also takes great pride in his work. He responded to all of my e-mails and questions immediately and my gut tells me he would do an excellent job. If I was not on disablity I would not even think twice about hiring him but unfortunately finances are definitely a big issue for me right now. I just don't want to make a decision that I will later regret and end up needing to borrow even more to fix a botched job.
I have read about varying experiences with Metro Restoration and am not in a position to be jerked around right now. Not that anyone ever is. lol
Anyone else have any advice to offer??

We recently used Burda Construction on a repointing job, did a great job, dealt with Landmarks, took pride in the work. Needed to stay on top of them but no different from any other contractor. Not cheap but probably worth speaking to. www.burdaconstruction.com

I recently took three bids on a job that required a permit from the City. Mos was the highest bid, and clearly knew his stuff. But aside from the price, what dissuaded me from going with him was the fact that he declined to pull the permit and told me I would have to do so myself. This despite the fact that under the regs, the contractor (not the homeowner) has to get the permit - and needs to present proof of proper insurance and workmen's comp in order to get said permit. Hm.

He came to my home to price a job on my brownstone stairs. He promised me a quote in a week, I never heard back from him. That's not acceptable in my book and just sends me a signal that he may not be a responsible contractor.

I sent J. Mos an e-mail on Saturday, he responded by Saturday evening, looked at the property on Sunday and I received a written estimate in the mail yesterday. I am definitely not in a position to watch over or stay on top of anyone since I do not live in the house that needs the work done and am not physically in a position to check on the work while it is being done. I need someone who is dependable and reliable. I know some might think I'm asking for the impossible: competence, pride in work, reliability, honesty and a fair price.

We used JMos to fix our brownstone stairs and he did a horrendous job the first time AND the second time after we raised cane. Within 3 months its cracking/peeling and we ended up using Metro to fix those things and their work has lasted well.
I don't, however, question his professionalism. He was very courteous and responsive during the estimates and when we asked him to come back and fix the work, he did it for free...just the work itsself was not quality work for the prices he charged.

10:09 Thanks for letting me know about your experience. Now I might not feel like I am settling if I go with another contractor. I guess it's time to call Metro for an estimate.

The thing at Hassan at Metro is, as you'll see from other postings, that he's hard to get ahold of b/c he's all over the neighborhood. Everyday when I'm walking the dog, I see at least 3-4 Metro signs...so he's busy, but if you can get ahold of his cell phone number, which i don't have right now, i was able to talk directly to him and that worked the best.

Thanks Everyone! If someone does have Hassan's cell phone number at Metro could you please post it.

Metro, stop posting yourself. You are doing it again. How can you compare your quality or work with that of Brownstone Authority!
You both did work on my block and the quality of work from Brownstone Authority is superior.

Hassan at Metro's cell number: 917-494-7213

Thank you for the cell phone number. Now I am confused as to whether Metro is posting the positive responses or not. lol Anyone who is willing to share their positive or negative experiences please send me a e-mail at vdaily1119@yahoo.com. Thanks.

There were only two pro Metro postings, both of which were from two different registered users with different details and experiences. What's more likely is that 9:32AM guest is J.Mos.

LOL! Thanks 10:08.

We had Mr Mos working for us and we couldn't be happier. He is honest and trustworthy.
I strongly reccomend him.

J.Mos never got me a quote after coming to my home to check on a job. Not professional. Metro never showed up at the time we set for our meeting also not professional. Be careful and ask for references you can actually speak and visit to test their work and actual client experience.
