Brownstone application in cold weather
My brownstoning contractor did the first two phases of his work in the summer and then was MIA until this week to apply the final coating of brownstone to my stoop.
At what point is it too cold to apply that final layer of brownstone and how will I know if there is a problem? Will it be apparent right away or will it take a while to show itself?
Thanks in advance for any advice you might have.

I assume he is applying a layer of concrete or stucco. I have seen people curing concrete under tarps with heaters.

It's too cold to be applying the top/"brownstone" layer. I don't know how it will show itself, but when I was getting quotes, any masons I spoke to would not apply that layer after October because as a rule it was too cold.

what with global warming, you should be fine... the first HARD frost doesn't get to us until late December these days. As to them being MIA, it may be they were doing the right thing and letting the undercoat of masonery cure fully before applying the finished stone. That's the correct way to do it. When you see the process speed thru, they're rushing it and you'll see cracking in the finished stone in just a few years.
