i got a quote for 1200.00 from an electrician today for adding a light switch and overhead light outlet to a plaster ceiling and also adding another electrical socket to a plaster wall, the price does not include replastering
is this a "high" price or common?
just trying to gauge these things which i have no idea what they cost
thanks

you're probably better off calling a bigger company that charges by the hour. . . . though you should get an estimate first

Depends how far from the electrical panel these outlets and switches are. If he's running a new line from basement to 2nd floor maybe this is fine. It's not easy to do this for a long run.

Sounds expensive. I've had similar work done for much less. If you want a rec, MAM electric is good and reasonable. They're in bay ridge.

sounds like a full day of labor with some level of hazard..hmmm, what would your attorney or banker charge for a full day of his labor with some level of risk mgmt? Pay the 1200, let us common folk eat

I just had the top floor of my two family house re-wired for $4000. That included getting the service panel moved upstairs from the basement, outlets every couple of feet in the walls, ventilation fans in the bathrooms, and undercabinet lighting, but didn't cover replastering, which would have been $500 more (and a great deal had I taken it...)
I don't know about your electrician needing to eat or not... And lawyers go to much more expense to become qualified. $1200 sounds high, unless the service is being moved a long way. Get more bids.

i have a novel idea: get 3 bids.
