Anybody else get a flooded basement tonight in/near Clinton Hill?

Happy thanksgiving, indeed--right after dinner, that little evening rainstorm backed up the sewer pipe, popped an ill-fitting cap off my waste pipe, and caused a minor flood in my cellar. I'm gonna have the pipes roto-ed tomorrow, because I suspect that I have a clog or roots or something--that storm wasn't big enough to overwhelm even our wheezing sewer system. But just to check--anybody else have flooding? I'm on Waverly between DeKalb and Willoughby. Thanks, cheers, hope yer shite is drier than mine....

When we moved into our house a year ago, a neighbor told us to be prepared to roto-rooter the roots out every 6 months. We got it done right away, resulting in a ton of roots, and 6 months later the roots were lighter but still, it was true, a lot had grown into the pipe. The sewer main is not cracked, the plumber said he could tell by the size of the roots which were very very fine. They'd be bigger if the pipe had cracks. But roots agressively seek water and can get into even the smallest joints in plumbing.

So long story short, plan on regular maintenance of the sewer main, keeping it clear. Also, make sure you have screens on your roof gutters and you clear the roof of leaves, because you could have had lots of leaves going down the roof gutter into the sewer main and clogging things.
