Understoop drain: Plumber or Mason?
I need to create a drain under the front stoop. Currently the runoff from rain flows under the cellar door and into the water meter pit. Would this be a plumber or a masonry contractor job?

Plumber.

OP here, I forgot to say that I assume the drain can go straight into the ground and does not need to connect to my waste pipe. That's why I wondered if a plumber was needed.

Mason

Outside drains such that you are describing don't go into the ground, they connect to waste pipes, just minus the trap. Have a plumber take care of the piping and a mason to close up around it...

for such a smallish amount of water a dry well will do the trick, save your self some money by switching to...
Hope the spell police is not arrounb tonieght. :)

I didn't see any mention of the amount of water, whether a little or alot, best to do the job right. A small drywell will collect water, and from there it will either evaporate, make its way into your home, or find another place to travel. Installing an outside pipe and closing up masonry is a small job, one that isn't to costly.

We're doing a similar job now. We're installing a check valve on the main house drain and connecting the under-stoop drain to the main drain in back of the check valve.
I agree with the other poster. Even if it’s a small amount of water (although if it’s flowing into your cellar it doesn't sound small), better to evacuate it into the city sewer than have it percolate down into the ground or overflow into your house.
It's more of a plumber job than a mason job although your plumber may not be comfortable repairing the concrete that is disturbed during the minor excavation.

A yard contractor installed our drywell in back, and our plumber installed the drain in the back vestibule that goes into the sewer main. I think it's a drywell vs. sewer drain question that determines who does the work.
