Tiler recommendation?

I looked through the archives and nothing particularly popped out -- any recommendations or advice on tilers for our bathroom? We are getting the walls and subfloors all ready for it, it's just installing and grouting the tile itself: glass tile on floor of shower and as decorative accent, and ceramic tile on floor, tub surround, and walls.

We would do it ourselves, but a) this bathroom project has been dragging on for a year and a half and I am going to lose my mind very, very soon, and b) I'm very nervous about messing up what was (for us) very expensive nice tile (we've got some funny corners to deal with).

Ballpark figures of what that might cost also would be helpful (the bathroom is 11x7, just one wall is getting tiled floor to ceiling).

I used a guy named Jim Lamm of Precision Paint & Tile for my bathroom tile. His website is www.precisionpaintandtile.com. If you go into the "Gallery" on the site, my bathroom is the one titled "Gut Bathroom Renovation - Travertine Marble." He laid about 230 sf of travertine on the wall and floors. His work was excellent. Although he took longer than I expected to finish the job, I would still recommend him. His price was fair. He also put up greenboard on the walls and wonderboard in the tub surround, leveled the floor, and installed a new tub for me.

Word of advice -- be careful about going with the cheapest quote -- not everyone can lay tile neatly. It will be worth it in the end to pay a little extra for someone who really knows what they are doing. Based on my experience getting estimates for my bathroom, my estimate for how much you can expect to pay for a quality job is about $10/sf for the ceramic tile and $15-20 per sf for the glass tile.

The handyman I've been using is excellent at laying concrete board and tile. I would put concrete board (wonder board) everywhere. I used him to amend some tiling issues with my bathroom, and he did a fantastic job. Daily rate $200. If you're interested, respond to this post.

Good advice from the previous posters. One thing I've found--a tile guy who does a great job with 4x4 machine-made tile from HD may not be equally adept at more expensive and/or handmade tile, which tends to be comparatively irregular and therefore harder to work with. And it will be a drag if a bunch of your expensive tile gets ruined or improperly installed.

Be sure to show your tile to the installer and try to gauge whether they've worked on something similar before making a hire.

I used Jim Lamm of Precision Paint & Tile as a contractor and he was never around, made excuses for why he wasnt available because he double books jobs and tries to juggle both. Left my apt a disaster and took our money and we never heard back from him. Low and behold we find out his is an ex-con names Lindsey Lamm who was in jail for burglary. Unless you want a mentally unstable ex-con in your home, buyer beware.

We had a terrific experience with Greg Matthiesen of Virginia Tile, 917-715-8673. He's not the cheapest, but he is exceptionally attentive to detail. Feel free to email with questions.

I recommend Lou from Aptoreno@yahoo.com (sorry lost his number). He did a beautiful tile job in my kitchen/bath. I used an expensive tile with numerous corners, angles, etc and it turned out as I expected/hoped (I was nervous though). I can send you pics if interested.

Lindsey "Jim" Lamm of Precision Paint and Tile is not licensed in NYC or NJ to do home improvement above $200. He falsely claims to be licensed.
