Sound-proofing the AC sleeves
We have a couple of AC sleeves that are not currently occupied. As two of them are in bedrooms and face a high-traffic street, we'd like to try and sound-proof them. Any suggestions on going about this? The current metal cover isn't doing much to keep out noise.
Thanks!

Never mind about soundproofing; you need to thermally insulate them before the winter makes them enormous heat sinks. I guess thermal blanket insulation has a degree of acoustic suppression too but there is a blanket that is specifically for sound suppression. Maybe you should use both.

I have a similar problem, in that rain pinging off of my A/C sleeve (I don't put it away during the winter) is really loud, regardless of the season. It's installed in the top of the window, and unless I join Cirque de Soleil, I'm not sure how well I can reach it from the fire escape or from underneath the unit. I'm willing to go try once (maybe roped in), but I'm looking for a solution that can stay in place on a pretty permanent basis. I'm also curious about why it is so important to put them away (mine was sold to me as a year-round install and they told me that the sleeve would protect it.) I was also thinking of styrofoam on top, but won't that ultimately be in the way of the vents for the A/C when it is in use? Any tips appreciated. Thank you...
