scooter parking

There was a police sweep of scooters parked along 3rd Street this week, and the police said they were under orders fromt he Mayor's office to get them all off the sidewalks. Anyone know anything about this, or how long it will last? Heads up to all scooter owners...

Here's an enlightened idea for the Mayor's office... just provide safe and legal scooter parking SOMEWHERE and watch the scooters in that area just fly off the sidewalks! Scooter owners are rational human beings. If *your* property is knocked over or stolen enough times, you're going to park it where it will be save from parking cars and where you can chain it up to avoid theft. That's some way to discourage automobile congestion, Mr. Mayor... to attack scooters that aren't bothering anyone.

Scooters and motorcycles should be parked on the street, just like cars. Their advantage is that they can be parked "sideways" or front end toward the curb, allowing them to fit in many places. The police are in their right to enforce the law: no parking on the sidewalk!

The problem is that you can't park on the street-- your scooter will be stolen. It has to be chained up, like a bicycle, and that is why people put them on the sidewalk. As an earlier commentator noted, scooters need a bit of accomodation. More generally, it is just so bizarre that all parking is set up for cars, and that it is given away more or less for free!!! Why is the City given away so much valuable space which could either bring in some revenue, or often be put to some other use-- bike lanes, park benches, swing sets, scooter parking, whatever.

Not only should we be locked to something to avoid theft but when I park in the street, i try not to take up too much room (even though legally we are supposed park in our own space ...especially at meters) if i park on an angle I have been hit, if i park straight out from the curb I amm knocked over, if i park like a car someone moves my bike which usually means dragging it or some sort of damage to follow.
irony is the bikes are not in a pedestrians way, usually as close to a pole as possible so it can be locked. sorry, until the city can come up with some sort of solution I see no harm in parking the bikes on the sidewalk.

Mount the plate on velcro and take it with you, lock and chain the scooter to whatever you feel like.
