Restaining Kitchen Cabinets

Looking for wood staining experts in brooklyn. Maple kitchen cabinets were stained 5 years ago and look terrible (staining did not take to the wood) and need to be redone. Would like some/any suggestions.
thanks

Maple doesn't take a stain well.

Perhaps paint?

Thanks - wish we did some research before letting contractor stain it. Any recommendations of someone in the area to do this ?

it might be just as easy to remove and replace with cheap IKEA cabinetry. You can do your entire kitchen for $3,000 plus install. Then it will be perfect.
