Rec for residential heating co to turn on boiler pilot lite

Can anyone recommend a professional heating company/person to inspect and repair heating if necessary ? This is our first winter in our brownstone which has not been occupied for 2 years. We had someone try to turn on the pilot light of our gas boiler and it doesnt turn on. Ive seen some references to companies on this site and called one (NY heating co) but they do not do residential heating - we were told. Thanks alot !

We went through the same thing, after moving into a place nobody lived in for 2 years. There's a switch on the outside of the boiler. You have to turn it on, in order for the boiler to fire up and heat the house, after you've lit the pilot light. On ours, if we were facing the end of the boiler, the part where the pilot light was lit, the switch was on the top right of the boiler. Every one is different, but see if that helps. Good luck!

We were also told to bleed or drain the water out with a hose attached to the spigot on the boiler, and put a few drops of "3 in 1" machine oil in a tiny hole near the spigot. Run the water into a bucket or in the drain to the sewer.

get a service contract from one of the plumbing and heating companies out there. It's only a few hundred bucks and they will take care of all this stuff for you and will come over if anything goes wrong during the winter.

Thanks again for everyones comments. We will call SOBOLOW today. We called QB mechanics which we found recommened a few days ago on this forum and they do not show up nor do they call to confirm they are (or not ) coming. I see that someone has recommended a service contract but after looking at a number of threads I notice that no one who is currently HAPPY with their current service contract provider notes the name of the co. I only see posts of co.s that people do not recommend (keyspan has received negative posts elsewhere)....well at least its a bit warmer today and we can go another day or so without heating....thanks to all

I HAVE SEEN THAT YOU NEED A HEATING COMPANY I WILL RECOMMEND ONE THAT CALLS BACK, CALLS WHEN THEY ARE COMMING AND CALLS IF THEY ARE GOING TO BE LATE. BLIZZARD MECHANICAL 718-241-4846. I HATE WHEN A COMPANY DOESNT CALL BACK, NO ONE APPRECIATES THE BUSINESS ANY MORE. ANYWAY MAYBE YOU ARE LUCKY THEY DIDNT CALL YOU BACK.I USED BLIZZARD IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION FOR MY MOTHERS HOUSE IN PARK SLOPE IN THE HEAT THIS PAST SUMMER AND THEY PULLED ME OUT OF A JAM. SHE IS ELDERLY AND CAN'T TAKE THE HEAT. I ASKED THEM NOT TO TAKE ANY MONEY FROM MY MOTHER AND THEY HAD NO PROBLEM WITH THAT. THE OTHER COMPANIES I CALLED WANTED PAYMENT UPON SERVICES RENDERED. I CAN UNDERSTAND THAT, BUT DONT WE ALL HAVE OLDER MOMS, ONCE IN A WHILE WE NEED TO BE HUMAN BEINGS EVERYONE DESERVES TO GET PAID.

Call Keyspan. They will do everything you need. Their yearly service contract is also very reasonable.

Actually, 252-7200 is the telephone number of Natco. Is 7500 a second number? Hmmmm.
