Question about C of O changes

We are considering a 3 family building with 4 floors, which has a 1 family structure on the first 2 floors, and then each additional floor has single family residences. So the configuration is 2,1,1 (floors to family).

However for various reasons, we need to change the configuration to have the 1st floor as single residence, make the 2nd and 3rd floor as an additional residence, and leave the 4th floor as is.

So in other words, we need to convert it to a 1,2,1 (floors to family).

Would this require filing new certificates of occupancy? It is still a 3 family residence, but we are changing the floor usage.

Thank you.

I don't think you need to change the CO. However, you will have to fire rate the separations (floors, walls, ceilings) between the different floors.

I meant to say, between the different occupants, not different floors.

Call or hire Scott Schnell....he knows all this stuff and is an expeditor so he can file anything you need.
