powerwashing limestone facade
My limestone townhouse's facade, including the brownstone steps are in great need of a powerwashing to remove 100 years of grime, etc.. Any advice on contractors and idea of cost? Thanks

I had parts of a limestone facade washed last year by Joe Militello of Magic Touch, 718-894-0400. He used a boom truck with a power washing rig so he was able to readily access the entire facade. I think the cost was $1500 for about 2 days work. A word of caution, limestone is soft and can be damaged by high pressure washing. There are gentler methods which employ a constant flow of water however they do take some time.

Limestone is an extremely delicate and porous material. If you choose to pressure wash it your contractor should use no more than 300 PSI of pressure, and probably a lot less.
More info than you'll ever need about masonry cleaing is available here:

Hey, is anyone aware of grant money that may be available to homeowners in historic districts. I have a limestone bldg. as well.
