Plaster Ceiling cracks
we bought a frame house about a year ago and in the past few months i've noticed a bunch of new cracks in the ceilings in the parlor floor. we raised the roof on the top floor by a few feet and I'm wondering if that could be triggering these changes. The construction was done with permit and engineer etc. If so -- any suggestions on what to do? If this is not the cause, any ideas on whether this is a normal "settling" issue for an old house? I'm fine with that, but it seems that there are an awful lot of cracks for such a short time. Any ideas/suggestions/insights welcome. Thanks!

FYI permits and engineers dont prevent plaster from cracking. good workmanship does

Plater ceilings need work over time. It's just the nature of 100 year old plaster to crack. If the plaster is still firm to the ceiling I wouldn't be real concern. If the plaster is starting to let go I would put some plater washers in place and skimcoat. If you need some help in the future with this, you can call me at 718-506-7621.

I thought plaster cracks were no big deal either, until I came home and found about 50 pounds of plaster on my pillow! It was as old as the house, full of horsehair and who knows what else. Glad I wasn't asleep at the time. You should definitely take a closer look and see if it's pulling away.
