Mortise Locks for Brownstone front Door
Looking to install a mortise lock set on the front door of my brownstone. I've received varying recommendations (e.g. Baldwin etc.), but can't seem to find a locksmith in the area (Bed Stuy) who can give me sound advice and who is experienced in installing these.
Any recommendations for types of mortise locks(including brand), best set-up, where to purchase and an experienced and trustworthy locksmith.
Also, is the mortise lock a good choice? One locksmith said that they all have the same master key - is this right?

My teenage son can break into any traditional flat key lock, including medecos, in about 10 seconds. When we replace our locks, I will get something else like the ones with round keys. Right now, we take comfort in having a dog.

i've done well with emtec products, although those that work with locks suggest that their designs are quirky. in addition, i've had better luck with carpenters than locksmiths on this sort of work and use one in particular who knows the inside/out of old door issues:

Rejuvenation Lighting and Houseparts (catalog & website) has a nice selection of mortise locks, for retrofitting existing doors. (Pricey but beautiful, sturdy, authentic reproductions.) They may even have a list of NYC/Brooklyn locksmiths who are experienced in installing them -- give them a call. But if the holes are already cut in the door, you may be able to install the lock yourself.

I really like Frank at Commercial Lock (I have posted of my good experience with him in the past). He has been one of the few reliable people in our lives--he actually THINKS about what will make the most sense for you. He replaced our front gate key and our front door key and is formulating a system so that all of our locks are opened by our master key. All keys are high security no duplication and he does the work that needs to be done on out old doors to make them secure.
I don't have the number on hand but you can google. I believe his shop is out on SI
