Lawyer Question

We just retained a lawyer to do a closing for a townhouse in Park Slope. His fee seems a bit high. Does anyone know how much it should cost from reviewing/negotiating a contract all the way to closing? Thanks!

we just went through a closing and it was $1500 although previously we've paid $2000. Not sure if this is the market rate - just what we paid

$2000 for a closing in Crown Heights and we thought he was worth every penny...

we paid $2000 (townhouse) - great lawyer made it almost hassle free.

co-op or condo will be less.

It depends on what you're looking for. If you only need a lawyer to show up at closing, 1500 will probably do it. I'm buying in Bed Stuy and have had a couple of deals go through and I'm incredibly grateful for the work my lawyer has done on my behalf. If my current deal goes through (fingers crossed!) I'll probably owe him between 2K-2500, but I couldn't have done all this without him. He's been a font of advice and information that comes from his years of experience with these things.

And before anyone asks, no my lawyer is not a friend, nor am I a lawyer. I am someone who is terrified of getting screwed though, and having someone who actually understands everything in a contract is invaluable.

to guest 10-13 9:06. Please tell us his name! When anyone does a good job it's sort of your duty to get him more work
Thanks
