Kitchen Venting

I am looking for someone who will come and do the duct work for my kitchen range hood. I have not found anyone who can do the work or give me an estimate, I also would like to know if you have to vent all the way at the roof level if you have a 4 story brownstone? What are the codes about this? Most importantly does anyone know anyboby who can do this?

I believe you have to go through the house. It would be nice vent directly off the kitchen to your rear yard..but such is life. Try Danny at Air Plus 646 335 7110

So does this mean that the kitchens in the garden have vents that go all the way up to the roof? Is that actual ducting or do they just sit below the kitchens on other floors and hook up with those kitchen vents? (In other words, can the kitchens share vents if there was a kitchen on the garden level and the parlor level?)

I believe the code says that you cannot exhaust within 10 feet of any window that's required for ventilation. Of course that includes neighbors as well.

The 10' radius applies to boiler, toilet, and chimney exhausts. The code says you must be 3' away from any built structure within a 10' radius.

I think for a stove hood you can vent through a wall but your contractor should know that for sure.

We did this recently -- a garden level kitchen with venting out to the garden. I was told by one contractor it couldn't be done, but another one was able to do it and it is great to cook without smoking up the whole downstairs. The person I used was Frank Vitrano, 347-247-0644.
