Information about home repair/maintenance classes
Four months ago, I became the proud owner of a condo in Clinton Hill. Sadly, I'm completely inept when it comes to basic home repair, renovation/restoration, and maintenance. However, I understand there are some local classes that teach these essential basics of home ownership. I've seen links on neighborhood blogs about such classes, and although I've searched long and hard through the archives of every website I can think of (including this one) for places/dates/enrollment information, I can't come up with the goods. Can anyone out there in Brownstoner-land point me in the right direction?

HPD offers classes for building owners. You may find one there that suits. Try this link:

3rd ward in Bushwick does carpentry and furniture building classes, which might come in handy later.

Like hangonsloopy linked to -- I recommend NHS as well. I've been attending the NHS of East Flatbush Home Maintenance Training class for the past few weeks and it's great. The course will last 10 weeks/$150.00 and the instructor is amazing and is a great resource to ask tons of your own home-related questions to while you're learning the basics. There's also an advanced class that I will probably try to take. They also offer landlord training and other courses. It's an amazing group! Good luck!
