Ikea appliances?
So we're renovating our kitchen, which is our first big renovation project. We're on a budget, and we're using Ikea for the cabinets and the like. Does anyone have any suggestions for where to buy appliances? Anyone used Ikea's appliances? Are they priced fairly? Many thanks!

Ikeas appliances are all whirlpool I think. I don't know how they compare on price. A big issue would be selection, you won't have much. Especially if you are renovating a ny kitchen and need smaller sized appliances. The other think to consider is delivery. If you do the ikea kitchen yourself, are you planning on having it delivered or picking up yourself? If picking it up yourself, you can do a lot with a regular car. Appliances you would need a truck. Also plan on going back and forth to ikea several times! Most to all of ikeas employees will be worthless in helping you as well. Many local appliance places have free delivery. I used j and r on 7th ave. in Park Slope. They have free delivery. They also took my old appliances away for a fee. The city will pick the old stuff up, but then you have to haul it out, schedule it and remove the doors and stuff. I'd get appliances from a local place rather than ikea.

Try Drimmer's for high end appliances at a negotiable price.
Stay away from AJ Maison.
They have too many customer complaints.
Go to www.gardenweb.com
It is consumer oriented.
There input is always interesting on kitchen appliances.

I used ikea for oven ,stove and range hood. I love the oven and range hood-although whirlpool, they have a better design than most whirlpool and were about the same price as what else you find on the market. No cheaper. I would not recommend the stove top. It was more expensive than advertised and almost immediately the enamelling on the grills started flaking off. I was promptly sent new ones which naturally behaved the same way.

try the website www.ikeafans.com
it is a self help website by ikea fans and not the store.
ikea appliances are a big subject over there.

I liked the styling on the IKEA appliances but every single one of them had IKEA printed on the unit in fairly big letters. I found that a drawback.

Check Consumer Reports. Has someone there done an IKEA appliance rating?

EBA ! - We just did a reno - put in a new kitchen and used ikea cabinets. EBA Wholesale in Brooklyn beat everyones prices and believe me I shopped around - J&R Appliances in the slope, PC Richards, Home Depot rtc. Find the appliance and model you want. Google it to compare prices (bizrate etc) then call EBA and I assure you you will get the best deal.
I bought 2 fridges, a dishwasher, and over the stove microwave and 2 ranges there (we have a rental in our house). But it is important to know the model you want in advance, it saves time as the orders are done my telephone/fax. They do have a store but Ive never been.
Another tip - unless you have weeks to assemble the ikea kitchen yourself make sure IKEA does the assembly. Many people/contractors say they can assemble. Our gen contractor said he could and then backed out b/c it was too much work. Then we had a nightmare of a time finding a guy who would show up and then when we did (someone who had done it "many times" found on craigslist ) he took literally 8 hours to assemble a few cabinets - and then did it incorrectly. Another guy never showed up on the day....In retrospect we would have save alot of time going with IKEA assembly.....

I second the endorsement for EBA Wholesale for appliances. (718-253-4700--ext. 136 was the rep I talked to, think his name was Tom) We renovated our kitchen last year, and I did extensive research and shopping around--they offered the best prices on all of it.
We also used Ikea cabinets, but didn't even consider their appliances, since aesthetically they weren't what we wanted. The cabinets are great though, and contrary to the experience described above, our contractor and his team had no problem at all assembling and installing them. The contractor even said he thought the hardware quality was great, as good as many high-end cabinets he's worked with.

I like Sears appliances and they tend to give you deals when you buy several at once.

I second the Sears recommendation. They have a huge selection and good prices. We actually liked our previous Kenmore dishwasher in our coop way more than our present Bosch dishwasher in our house, which is smelly and I can't figure out why. No there is not food trapped in it! It just smells. It's gross.
But Sears installation is terrible. Not the guys they subcontract to do the installation, they're fine, but the coordinating from dispatch at Sears is awful. Sears as a store is retarded. Totally disorganized. So if you buy appliances there just have them delivered and have your kitchen contractor do the installation. No matter what kind of installation/delivery special deal Sears might offer.
