How Much Does It Cost to Apply for a J-51 Abatement?
How much is the total cost to apply for a J-51 real estate tax abatement? Ballpark figure, including application fees, lawyer fees, and expediter fees. For a newly-converted 8-unit condo in Brooklyn.
Any estimates are greatly appreciated!

It depends on who you use and how many "extras" need to be taken care of - 3% of the total abatement has been my experience. If all of the work is signed off then it is not impossible to tackle on your own. You can request an application/info packet from HPD - info is on their website. You'll need copies of all contracts/invoices and cancelled checks for the work you're submitting. HPD has intake windows for new applications so you'll want to check their deadlines. Once your app is submitted, it will be assigned a docket number and a processor. They'll let you know what additional information is needed.
