home inspector

Can anybody recommend a good home inspector? My ceiling has ominous cracks in it.

Tim Curran from Safe Haven did our inspection and was thorough and incredibly knowledgeable about old homes. He's amazing.

Lawrence Ubell of Accurate Inspectors. Google the company for phone number. Brooklyn based. He's fabulous and very smart Pointed out stuff that previous owners of my hoime, who had purchased the home only 3 years before, hadn't picked up on their inspection (they fixed these things as a condition for purchase). Got his name from several postings on this site.

Heimer Engineering did a thoroughly anal-retentive inspection of our house before we bought it.

Colin Albert in Fort Greene. He's licensed.

Al Triolo (1-800-Engineer). He is so thorough and meticulous in his inspections that brokers refuse to refer him.

I second Larry Ubell. Look for his and his father's spot on the Leonard Lopate show. He did our place; he spent a lot of time with us in the house, explained everything thoroughly and has been a great resource even after we paid him.

The best licensed home inspector in Brooklyn is Tim Curran at Safe Haven Inspections. All your questions will be expertly answered and he goes out of his way for his clients. It doesn't matter really if the property is new or old - he knows it all. His specialty, though, is brownstones and older buildings.
