extending the extension

We have a 10x10 extension, and would like to make it wider (to span the width of the house). It seems like the most efficient way would be to just build the additional walls to complete the rectangle and then knock down the extraneous interior dividing wall. Or, we could demolish and start over. Has anyone done either of these that can comment on process, permits and costs?
thanks

Hire an architect, mate. That's what we're here for.

More than likely it will be easier to knock it down and start over.
