Dumb waiter repair
I need to have the rope replaced in my 120 year old manual dumb waiter between the first and second story. Any ideas of someone able to handle this?

I have never heard of anyone wanting to repair their dumb waiter. You're unique.
Try asking a carpenter. Even if he doesn't know how to fix it, he will probably figure it out.

Wow-- I've never heard of anybody who still HAS a dumbwaiter. Don't suppose you'd upload a couple pictures, would ya?

Alot of the brownstones still have dumbwaiters. A few of us on my block repurposed ours into laundry chutes.

I notice you did not a lot of feedback. But they are fixed or replaced with new ones occasionally.
The shaft needs to be checked out for obstacles which could be anything from debris/electrical wires/plumbing/cabinet grounds/ structural framing members and yes entire closets.
Then the condition of the cab itself and its pulleys needs to be addressed. Settling of the home affects these as does the passage of time.
You will at the very least need new cables.
Residential Elevator Suppliers build and install dumb waiter cabs also. Though they do not prepare the shaft for you - much as is the case with a residential elevator installation.
