'burning rubber"
in a small room in the front of my house, which is empty, there is a smell of burning rubber. it is always present. or at least that is how i can describe it. does this mean i have some sort of electrical problem? or am i juts nuts? I don't seem to have any known issues but also the wiring is DEFINITELY pretty old. Thanks for your input.

Is your place under construction right now? Often the pig tails ( rubber light socket ) contractors use can give off that smell when the bulb heats up the socket.

I have a small foot rug made of some recyled stuff and, after a year (!) it started emitting exactly that smell. Couldn;t figure it out. It's outside the door now.

OP here.
there are no contractors on stie. I do have a power strip in one outlet with just some lamps connected 2x60watts total.

How about the chimney. Is there an oil burner running. You might be smelling fumes from a poorly lined chimney.

OP here. it's not against my chimney wall, BUT it is against my neighbors chimney wall, and that house is in shambles and hasn't had work done in YEARS. Maybe it's Carbon fumes from their boiler?
