air mattresses...

air mattresses...

any recommendations, we like the eddie bauer air mattress we saw at target that has the whole quilted feel, but we also like the 24" aerobed that Bed Bath and Beyond has since the height makes you feel like you are sleeping on a real bed. its for our quests anyway, but anyone have any experience with either?

I've found that aerobeds develop pinholes really easily, esp. if you don't put an old blanket down on the floor first. It's impossible to find these holes, too. I suspect our current one leaks around the electric motor gasket. We've gone through 3 in the past 5 years. Even something as tiny as a staple embedded in the carpet will puncture them.

Sounds like the EB one is also an aerobed. They are, however, easy to use but not really as comfortable as a futon or sofabed.

the air matress is really only suitable as a travel matress
most people prefer to sleep on a couch

you could also look at a folding cot

My father in law was on an airbed for 2 weeks while visiting soonafter we moved into our new house. He refused to return until we had a bed - and we got one and he was much happier during his last visit. Ikea has daybed frames for 100 USD and the mattress is abt 50. It works very well and no complaints

the sp'air bed from brookstone is the best i've found. it's expensive (~$200-250), but if - like me - you don't have space for a day bed, i think it's well worth it and your guests will thank you.

We bought a great double at KMart for about $99. It's about 24" high, so when the "bed" is made, it looked and felt ok. Much better than the single heights and much cheaper than what we found at some of the other store.

Great for couples. Singles definitely prefer the couch. Came with motor for inflating.

We slept on the high/double kind during our renovation. It really was comfortable.
Tip: Don't let your dogs play on it.

I just slept for 3 nights on an aerobed. I was able to sleep soundly and had no problems with aches or pains in the morning(s). Getting in and out of it I found to be a pita. Kind of like climbing off of a trampoline.
They aren't the best beds in the world but in a pinch it's fine. Of course you can adjust the firmness by how much air you put in.

We have two of the Aerobeds of the high-rise kind (one a queen and the other, I think, a full)and are very satisfied. They have each been used for periods as long as a week or two at a time over the last 18 months. Before we bought the second one, we bought a much cheaper one through Overstock.com and found that it did not inflate to be firm enough to be useable. (They took it back, to their credit.)
