A tree falls in brooklyn

Between 6th and 7th ave on 9th street, a 'sidewalk' tree has been cut down for reasons unknown. Who's responsibility is it to remove the stump that will now takes it's place and replace it with some new greenery? Is there a time table to stick by? Along this stretch, this is probably the 5 or 6th stump I've seen. The others are clearly much older and have yet to be replaced. Who do I contact? Thanks.

The owner of the building in front of the tree pit can request a new tree. It was either removed by the NYC Parks Department because it posed a hazard or it was removed by the property owner.

The Parks Dept has to removed diseased or dead trees. Asian longhorn beetle has caused alot of problems and those trees are removed immediately.

You can contact the Parks Dept and ask about this pit in particular. They should be able to tell you the reason why the tree was removed (to insure it was legally done) and the future plans for it.
