What is an Expediter?

I am changing my C of O from a one to a two-family dwelling and want to know what exactly an Expediter will do to help me with this project - someone suggested I use one but I don't know anything about what they do or how much they charge, any help would be appreciated, thanks.

An expediter has a "pass" or a "license" to get in the front of the line at the Department of Buildings. They also prepare and review all of your paperwork ahead of time so that you file correctly the first time. If you don't use an expediter, it'll take you multiple trips to the DoB yourself. They save you a considerable amount of time, but they do cost money. It all depends on your scope. I usually use Jay Patel at (212) 349-7488. He's gotten me approvals in less than a week before. Even for small jobs it usually takes 2-3 weeks for an approval.

There are also new codes for multiple family building under 4 family. The biggest (and potentially costly) is common hallways must have sprinklers. The good thing is you are allowed to run up the ten heads off your existing water service.

Scott Schnall on Atlantic Ave. Knows what is approveable.
