tub/sink reglazing
I'm thinking about buying a claw foot tub that will need to be reglazed. I've heard that the results of reglazing aren't that great, that it's really not at all like the porcelain finish. Has anyone had fixtures reglazed and if so can you let me know what you thought of the result?

I haven’t had fixtures reglazed. We are redoing one of our bathrooms and decided to buy a new claw foot tub since ours wasn’t in great condition, we found a few really nice tubs at what I think are good prices. Signature Hardware and Rejuvenation both have cast iron claw foot tubs at around $1,200 delivered; that to me seemed like a better deal than trying to redo ours, when its not in good shape at all..

I've had old tubs reglazed, they came out really nice. The service costs around $300. I would say that if you already have the tub in your house you can save yourself $1000. ( if the savings is something you want. ) However, If you have to buy a tub anyway I would look at the new cast iron claw foots. Many of them are much the same in design as the old ones. The original porcelain is nice and will last a life time.

Can you recommend a glazer that would redo a tub that's in place (you mentioned $300)? We don't have a claw foot, but we like that it's cast iron and deeper than most standard tubs that you'll find at HD or Lowes. Thanks...

I've had 2 tubs reglazed. The current one I have is a 6' and was reglazed by a place on Fort Hamilton Parkway around 68th Street. They do the actual reglazing at their plant in Pennsylvania. Very satisfied with their work, but I think it cost over $500 to do.
My first reglazed tub can from Tennessee Tubs and held up for 15 years. It was ruined by harsh cleaning agents and scratches on the rim from rigns while bathing infants.

We just had a claw foot tub re-glazed for $285. That was the inside of the tub only. It was $700 to do the outside also. Our Tub was in pretty bad shape and required some sanding and an acid wash first. The finish was a massive improvement and a significant cost saving but not perfect. There were a few imperfections here and there but it suited what we needed as long term we will likely upgrade the whole bathroom. It's well worth doing if you dont want to spend the big bucks on a new tub but the flip side is it wont be perfect like a new tub, although it'll likely be reasonably close.

Any specific recommendations for a tub reglazing company? I've heard some are not as good as others.

Yes, anyone have contact information for the approx $300 reglazers? I have only been able to find quotes around $500.

Im in the Business of Restoring Antique Tubs & Sinks. I had many customers from all over the North East Satisfied. If your looking for a Newer tub it wont have that Antique look plus they are plastic not Like Cast Iron Tubs Which also hold the Hot water longer. They also can cost Thousands By the time you get to sit in them and Enjoy.. Id also avoid in Home refinishers only Because they use a Paint and Process that takes only hours to Apply But the finish wont last. Its a Good way if your looking for a Quick Fix And Selling your Home.I know this because used to do in home Tub & Appliance refinishing for over 10 yrs.. My Newer process is Compleatly Different Than in Home Refinishers and My Tubs Can Last As Long As you own it! i do all Work in my Shop Located in Eastern Long Island. Prices for Buying a Compleate Restored Tub in 5 foot Size from me is $650. or only $460 to restore your tub Inside and out. i also do Pick up and Delivery if Needed. If you need any References i have many Customers from all over........ Checkout my Page at www.Myspace.com/TubKing Hope my info Helps
