The Landlord

Anyone seen it? Just got back and I live in the Slope but couldn't figure out which building the exertiors were shot at. I heard it was at 6th Avenue and Prospect, but I couldn't spot it in the dark. Anyone know the exact address?

The Landlord is a film, made in 1969, that is about a rich white 29 year old who decides to buy a house in the "black ghetto of Park Slope." It has some scenes that were filmed in the Slope and Bed-Stuy. It's at the Film Forum through Weds, not available on DVD.

The movie was shot at 51 Prospect Place. It was mentioned in the NYTimes piece last week.

I saw it way back when and was impressed then by Beau Bridges who decides he is going to make a Brooklyn Brownstone his hip project and plans to evict all his tenants. One by one though he is drawn into the funny convoluted society which inhabits his place and his original plans fall apart. It was good....

I saw the film shortly after moving to the South Slope in 1970. A fairly good movie, but not much connection to reality IMO.

I think it would be fascinating to find out the story of who actually bought the building after the movie was shot. Apparently they only shot the exterior scenes there and the building was abandoned. Interior scenes are a laugh because the configurations are so different, one apartment to the next, couldn't possibly be the same brownstone.

I always thought the exteriors were of St. Marks between 3rd and 4th Avenues.
