Picking a Tub

Picking a Tub

We are adding a bathroom on the garden floor of our brownstone and are debating the merits of a cast iron tub vs acrylic. All the tubs we are looking at are about 66x34x21 (soaking only/ no whirlpool). We are a bit worried about the wieght of the cast iron (450 lbs) but are not loving the look or feel of the acrylic. What did others do? A friend suggested Zuma tubs; does high end make a differnce in the feel of the acrylic?

Why is the weight a problem? I was advised to get cast iron for our third floor bathroom, when we redid it. Can't remember our contractor's reasoning, however. The acrylic was a little flimsy, I think. Also sounds weird if there's a shower, maybe. But I'm not sure what your problem is with the cast iron.
