Neighbors Tree Overhanging My Yard
My next door neighbors have a huge tree with 5 to 10 foot branches that hang over into my back yard. In the Autumn the leaves fall into my yard and it is a nuisance to clean. Do I have the right to ask the neighbors to trim the tree so that it does'nt hang into my yard?

You do realize that even if they trim the branches so none overhang your property, you will still have leaves to rake in you back yard, don't you? Unless it is a danger, be happy you have some nice trees out back.

You have to right to cut the part of the tree that overhangs your yard. As far as the neighbor having to cut it down at your request...maybe not.

Here in the U.S of A (the United neighborhoods of Brooklyn), you still have the right to free speech. Go next door and invite your neighbor over for coffee, and discuss. Do you even know your next door neighbor? you should.

There is a 4 story tall white pine tree in my next door neighbors yard which causes immense problems for me, i.e. clogging the drains with needles on both my roofs as the branches extend way across my yard. I have paid, several times, to have the branches cut, but the neighbors only allow me to cut to the fence line (their right to do so) but it has been a complete waste of my money as the branches just grow back again and we are talking about a 4 story tall tree which does not allow one to just reach up and trim the branches. It is a nightmare as there is constant clogging of the drains and pine sap always dripping in the yard. No they will not do anything about the tree and if it goes down someones house is probably going to go down with it.

Try getting your hands on some Chinese beetles. That should do the trick.

OP, give this a "read", it should answer your tree question.

I agree with 3:48PM though ... speak with your neighbor in a friendly manner... you might be able to work something out.

Anyone know what to do if the roots of a neighbors tree are causing cellar leaks? Thus far nice neighborly negotiation isn't getting me anywhere.

Trees are a menace. We should really chop 'em all down.

I realize some of the comments here are self-parodying, but - damn! - you people are scary. You want to chop down a tree so you don't have to sweep leaves? How long does that take? 15 min? Maybe the problem isn't THEIR trees, but YOUR gutters. Some form of gutter guard will help...

Exactly, Carrie M. The backyards are tiny here, it takes no time to rake leaves. Houses are never no-maintenance. Houses take a lot of labor and time.

I compost the fallen leaves and use the mulch on my flower beds

You do the trimming on the part that is on your property, you just can't hurt the tree when doing so. It would also probably be wise to discuss this.

Yeah, I'm having some of the same problems, the neighbors tree is right on the fence line and is pretty tall, but the thing is is that the tree looks like it is dying, the small leaves are constantly falling into my yard, but most of all my pool. Given at any time of the year, the leaves fall into my pool, what should i do to stop this problem???
