Moving Central Air Unit

Hi Everyone. I just bought a garden floor condo in south slope and it has central air. The problem is the central a/c unit is pretty much in the center right part of my 20X40 yard.

I wanted to move the unit back towards the back of the yard to make better use of the space.

Does anyone know what is involved in this process and if it very expensive? Is this something I could reasonably do myself?

If anyone has had this experience or knows what I am talking about I could really use some advice.

Thanks so much!

Seems like a simple move. Several things to think about. Additional pipe and electrical. A/C pipe extention is easy. Electrical, if underground is cost you. There also is probably setback limitations. Might do better moving closer. Also, might have to ammend the filing (if you want to be technically legal). My guess, $3000. Not including filing.

Can not do oneself, must have licensed HVAC to evacuate and refill system.

Hmmm, Evacuating and refilling the system seems like something that would definately be necessary. Guess I will Have to talk to HVAC folks.

Any recommendations?

Thanks again!

The reason the unit is located where it is might be related to the rules governing how far from the property line you can place a unit. I don't recall the exact rules, but I think you have to be x feet from the rear property line and y feet from the side lines (rules might differ if there isn't anyone to your side). Have you thought about the roof? It is more complicated, but you get a lot less noise. Having said all this, not many people care about those rules -- but an annoyed neighbor might.
