Door replacement - vendors?

My wife and I have been repairing a doorway that was punched out of the back of our parlor floor years ago, and done poorly. We're really happy with the results, but we faced an unanticipated problem - the door.

The old door is unusable - whoever did it in the first place cut it off-angle to fit the lousy doorway that they created. Shame on us, we straightened the whole thing out.

So we need a new door. But the size is non-standard, and we'll need to cut the door down to size. Home Depot & Lowes only seem to sell steel, covered-wood and polypro doors.

Can anyone suggest a place that would sell a traditional wooden door?

Thank you!

There is a salvage place on Greene between Grand and Classon in Clinton Hill that has a lot of original doors removed from brownstones for sale. You might get lucky as to size.

There is a door place 560 2nd Street in Brooklyn, On-site Doors. www.onsitedoors.com I have not purchased, but they have reasonable-priced to expensive doors; and they're local, if you're in brooklyn.

That's Eddie's Salvage, great guy and a *lot* of doors. It's just east of Grand Avenue, right next to the ugliest building in Brooklyn (222 Greene? 224 Greene? Something like that).

you could patch the door. glue some wood on the slanted bottom and trim the door straight again, then re-paint it.

Old Moon River has old doors, they will have to be striped and probably repaired and cut-down. Old Moon River is on Grand in Williamsburg almost to Kent Avenue

Architectural salvage yards are your best bet. Finding one to fit exactly is difficult; however, if it is solid you can cut it down with a good circular saw. Avoid any with rot. Matching the keyholes can be a problem. Custom sized doors will cost you.
