Boiler room

We are installing a new boiler, and it's a few feet away from where the old boiler was and we knocked down a wall. Every plumber that has come in has given me different info. Does anyone know if we must have a separate boiler room for a 2 family house? I thought we didn't need one.
thanks

No you don't. I live in a legal 2 family home and I have one boiler for the entire house. You can opt to have seperate boilers for each floor but thats up to you.
Its been like this in my house for over 24yrs if not longer .

good luck

In your plumbers' defense, it's an architect's question.

You do not need a separate boiler room for a two family home.

I think the rule for the room is 3 family & up.

A fire-rated boiler room is required for multiple-dwellings (i.e., 3 family and up). So, not required for a two family.

That being said, it can be a good idea to build beyond what is strictly required by code, safety-wise.

Thanks guys.
So do you think it is a problem that the boiler is in a large "room" (we sectioned off part of the basement that had the "ugly" stuff. 3 plumbers thought it was fine, one thought it could be a problem.

I agree with the person who suggests going with a solution which might not be a requirement of code, but would provide you, the family and the house with better safety in case of a mishap or malfunction. A separate room with fire proofed materials would be worth the peace of mind for me.

You do not need a boiler room in a 2 family (non-multible).
3 family and above you do. However it is better to have one for energy efficiency and fire protection.
