I need a trench dug out in my basement to fix a water pipe. any reccomendations?

Pick-axe anyone?
I'm curious as to why the plumbers you have engaged to fix the problem cannot dig the trench. And refill it for that matter after the problem is located and corrected. I appreciate that my barber won't do my laundry but most plumbing companies do or can employ a trench-digger.
It is very often the bulk of the job.

They have a separate contractor who gave us a very high quote of $4500 to did a 20 foot long trench 2 feet deep.
my barber is next to my laundromat

I assume they are (moving some stuff out of the way) cutting the floor in a straight line with a buzz-saw and breaking the slab, digging the trench, removing the excess rubble from the site that will not fit back in,(at their expense)
Returning post plumbing, backfilling the trench with sand, soil and gravel and concreting the basement floor.
It might be high but its not crazy - the digging may not be easy . large rocks etc.
I would do it for $3200.
If it sounds agreeable to you email me at HasSpadeCanDig@aol.com. ( I am insured)
